A COMPARATIE STUDY OF PSYCHOLOGICAL VARIABLES OF BOXERS AMONG DIFFERENT WEIGHT CATEGORIES

Abstract


Background: Boxing, also called pugilist, is a combat sport in which two people fight each other using their fists. Boxing is supervised by a referee for a series having one to three minutes interval called rounds. The match ends, when an opponent is knocked out or deemed incapable to continue the match by a referee (technical knockout), or if an opponent is disqualified for breaking a rule, resigning by throwing in a towel, or by judges’ scorecards at the end of the bout. There are two forms of boxing amateur and professional.

Objective: Objective of the study was to find out the psychological variables, affects boxer among different weight categories of All India Inter-university Boxing Tournament’s participants (N=50) held at BHU.

Setting: Descriptive statistics was used. Inter-university boxer from various weight categories of light weight categories (N=05), Fly weight category (N=05), Bantam weight category (N=05), Light weight category (N=05), light welter weight category (N=05), Welter weight category (N=05), Middle weight category (N=05), Light Heavy weight category (N=05),  Heavy weight category (N=05) and Super Heavy weight category (N=05) participated in the tournament. To find out the significant difference between different weight categories of boxers in relation to speed, agility and quickness, One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used. The level of significance was set at 0.05.

Result: There is no any significant difference between different weight categories of Boxings in relation to psychological variables was accepted in case of all selected psychological variables.
