Abstract

Assessment was not carried outat the start of a module, students were not allowed to be assessed when they felt readyto be assessed, nor were peer and self-assessments often practiced. Similarly, staff believedthey were assessing a full range of learning but in practice there was a heavy emphasison the essay and short answer assignment. Clearly, there are mismatches occurring notonly between staff and students but also between what staff believed and what theyactually did.
