Abstract

Worldwide, over 30 species of Lepidoptera feed on pods and seeds of pigeon pea (Shanower et al. 1999), among which, Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner), Maruca vibrate (Geyer), Melanagromyza obtusa (Malloch) are the most common ones. H. armigera and Maruca larvae feed on seedling foliage, flower buds, flowers, young pods and developing seeds. The pod flies (M.obtusa) lay eggs in immature pods and feeds on developing seeds.
